The South African organization Mettlestate has just announced a one million Rand, which is around $76,000, the largest single biggest prize of its kind in the country.
Partnering with Twitch, Mettlestate will try to close the gap between the local and global scenes with a 24 team tournament, twelve of which will be invited and twelve of which can register on the organization's website, here, on a first come, first serve basis.
As an introduction to the season, two of the biggest names in South Africa, Bravado and Energy, played a show match which ended with the latter team winning two of the three maps played, and taking the ~$3,800 winner takes all prize.
The online league will end with a LAN final which will take place in Johannesburg, at the Mettlestate studios, where the top eight teams will face-off on May 4-7. The format, teams invited, and prize distribution will be announced at a further date.
